Hi, your carer will only receive carers allowance if they earn under a certain amount. Check out on gov.uk. also check for ESA and council tax reduction in your area.

Good morning. If you have PIP then you try for council tax discount. It is not easy but if the forms are filled out correctly you can get it backdated to when you receive full pip! Took me several tries with emailing our gp telling them exactly what the lovely man from the council tax wanted/needed! He was VERY helpful. Then I got it backdated to the time he has full pip and more or less did not pay any council tax for about 9 month and got a little bit refunded into my bank!

Just a couple of comments about PIP. Apparently one has to be below retirement age and the giving of the allowance is very prescriptive. Because of this it's well worthwhile getting some help completing the forms etc. Age UK helped Jackie and I and of course if you are a member of the MSA Trust (and everyone in the UK really should be), their welfare person Jane, is excellent on all things benefits!Jackie was refused PIP to begin with and so we had to appeal and it was then awarded. It's not only worth having it for the cash benefit but it also opens the door to other things like the mobility car scheme.

Take care, Ian
