I have a problem with a wisdom tooth, and I'm concerned that my dentist may tell me that the tooth can't be saved and must be extracted. Has anyone with PV (or another MPN) had an experience with oral surgery? Are there best practices for oral surgery for such patients?

I also had a wisdom tooth removed in later life with PV. Nothing specials needed. just stop the aspirin 3 - 7 days before the extraction. Check with your MPN Specialist on the timing. My docs have shifted to 3 days being adequate for minor procedures like this.
All the best.
Thanks for the quick response. I wonder if I should also stop taking aspirin 3 days before a likely phlebotomy. I've noticed that there's lately been quite a bit of bleeding at the needle site.
I would think no to d/c the aspirin before a phlebotomy. You may also notice some bruising at the site. That is not unusual. Suggest you run that by your MPN Care team for input. If you are having an unusual amount of hemorrhage at any time they need to know.
I had a wisdom tooth removed a few years ago with no issues, and I have PV. I just stopped taking aspirin a few days before. It healed very quickly and the relief of not being in pain any more was amazing.
Hi yes I had big dental surgery over 1 hour trying to remove an infected implant. My heamo gave me some tablets in case of excessive bleeding but I didn’t need them. Just loads of pain killers . I have ET x
Hi I am lucky that the hospital I attend for haematology has a dental unit which I attend so they have all my bloods at hand I have had alot of work done on my mouth but have never had to stop my anti coagulation tablets but what you could do is call your haematology consultant or your mpn nurse specialist if you have one explain to them what you are about to get done and they may get in touch with your dentist and what would be the best thing to do they might send you a letter to give to your dentist or may phone them how to proceed with your treatment or tell you what is best way forwardStay safe

Hi, I would suspect that if your blood counts have been in fairly good shape that you would not need anything special. Best to run it by your hematologist or care team to be sure.Good luck with the extraction. Best to you.
I had a tooth extracted a few months ago and I came off blood thinner and aspirin 5 days prior. After the extraction, I started back on them.Good luck to you!!
