Have I got this right does anyone know? I understand that chronic leukaemia patients (including MPNs) who are on treatment such as Jak2 inhibitors should be called for a third primary dose. Otherwise anyone over 50 will be called for a booster dose at a minimum of 6 months after their second dose
Is there any time lapse recommended for the third primary dose and is there any difference in the vaccine given for a third primary dose and that given as a booster
It is certainly not easy to sort the distinction out and I’ll be asking my Haematogist at my next appointment. In the meantime I wonder if Maz could get any more clarity from Prof Harrison?
I’m the meantime we must all remember that COVID is still a threat out there and we should still exercise a degree of caution in our behaviour.
Best wishes, Jan

Hi Jan, I checked with Prof Harrison and she has said, yes it is correct and there are more details to follow, we will update everyone as soon as we know. Best wishes, Maz
Thank you for that, Maz. We need to be less impatient and wait for more details! Some of the information put out by the government is a tad confusing and when you add press reporting into the mix it becomes anybody’s guess😂. Best wishes. Jan
I’d agree, it’s hard to be patient when so much is being talked about and you can’t easily decipher the government guidance! I have a friend who has rheumatology issues and on medication that resulted in him shielding too, he’s been called by his GP surgery for his 3rd dose! It’s all confusing, hopefully he guidance will be clarified too, I had my 2nd dose over 6 months ago now and starting to worry a little, like you say covid is still rife, my kids are both in secondary school, my husbands having to travel for work again and I’m back seeing patients and the general public don’t seem to care, it’s a a worry for us all, especially as we’ve been so careful for so long xx
My hubby has RA and had his third dose (Pfizer) last week. He got a txt from the NHS whilst visiting his GP, he showed them the txt and they booked him in. The criteria for him was pretty straightforward 25mg Methotrexate, but also 7.5mg Prednisolone in combination.
The criteria doesn’t seem as straightforward for MPNs; however, Maz has said there will be an update on this.
Thank you for that Barbara. I’ve not heard anything yet but have my flu jab booked for the beginning of October. Maybe I’ll get more info before that or at least at that time
