Has anyone experienced weight gain with hydoxycarbamide?
Hi, yes, I have. I think I gained about 15 kg totally. When I discussed it with my doctor, that I wanted to lose the weight she looked at me and said: Good Luck! I have heard others that have gained and had troubles losing it.
While not listed on all sources, weight gain on HU has been noted on some.rxlist.com/hydrea-side-effe...
No, I lost some weight actually, but I am a stress eater. And since HU relieves the constant pain issue I am now eating less. I was also able to up my exercise levels so I think the tendency to weight gain was balanced out.
No, the only pill that made me gain weight was Ruxo. I was able to eat more because of less pain. But my doctor took me off of it over 2 years ago and put me back on hydroxyurea another drug called Fedratinib because of post Et Mf. I’ve lost about 10 pounds since.
I did but that's because I was eating too much - comfort eating during a very stressful time. However, while still on Hydroxycarbamide, I later lost weight by changing my diet so it obviously wasn't the drug causing anything. Now on Ruxolitinib, I have gained weight but I needed to so that's fine. I just hope it doesn't creep up too much.
Yes I have. I have been on Hydroxycarbamide for 6 years now and definitely gained weight. I have never been overweight but I am now. Keep trying to lose the weight but no luck yet. Unfortunately I have not been back swimming yet as still unsure how safe everything is. But I’m sure this will help . Take care x
Yes but I don’t think it’s the meds in my case, I think is the fatigue and I just love food
No, it hasn't affected me in that way.
Yes - about 5kg in 5 months - sigh - but also think that it has more to deal with my diminished ability to exercise as intensively as I did prior to HU (get breathless at high cardio activity which never happened prior) - not sure why but hoping my switch to Peg will help
Yes!!!!!
Yes I have put on about 5 kilos. Might have to do with not being so active because I get so out of breath with pain on my chest when even just going for a walk. Had my heart checked and nothing wrong so I don’t know.
Yes, about 10 pounds in a year and a half. I have cut back on portion size and still exercise as much as before the HU, so I think it’s related.
Yes but don’t think lock down helped
Yes, over 20 pounds ...between taking Ruxo, COVID, fatique, breathing problems, I don't have the energy like I did a year ago.
I initially gained 10 lbs. In March 2020, just before Covid hit here, I had a knee replaced and lost that weight and an additional 10 lbs. Just received results from GI biopsies ~ nothing nefarious, thank goodness. I do have significant gastritis and esophagitis, most likely from the high dose NSAID’s following surgery. My belly is already better and I’m putting weight back on, which my Oncologist is happy about. I’ll have to take care not to gain too much back. Stay well.
I put on 8lbs in the first 6wk, gained 20lbs over the course of a year. I think I was stress-eating w the new ET diagnosis, and concurrent w Covid lockdown/fears. I’m slowly losing, have lost 16lbs so far. My doctor said ppl tend to lose wt taking hydroxy., but maybe that kicks in later?
I have gained 12/14 pounds in 2 1/2 years. Really hard to lose any. Take metropolol for heart which also causes weight gain. Depressing 😭
Hi - Having difficulty losing weight & gained around 2 kilos only. Going for daily Walks & trying to limit evening goodies!!(: (:
