Hi, All, I haven’t written in a while but I’ve been following many of the discussions about vaccines. I’m scheduled to have the Pfizer vaccine in a park on Tuesday. I’m a little nervous even though I’ve been given the go-ahead by my hematologist. But a doctor in a hospital near me had it and had a reaction and died 2 weeks later. He was 56 years old and in good health but his platelets dropped to 0. He was put in the ICU and all kinds of specialists were called. Sadly, he had a stroke and died. They diagnosed him with ITP (immune thrombocytopenia). The truth is we still don’t know much about the vaccine ie; long and short term side effects, efficacy for people with blood cancer, and how long the immunity lasts. We are still being advised to wear masks and follow protocols even after we take the vaccine. For what it’s worth, I’ll probably still go ahead with it next week, but with much trepidation.
Take care, everyone.
