Shielding lobby your MP's and anyone else you can

The idea that shieilding could cease on Aug 1st was always a political pipedream and only believed by fantacisists. I am appalled that people on this forem can be faced with with the choice of going to work or being sacked. I am lucky inthat I have been retired 6+ yearsmhowever I would love to return to do such things as childhood vaccs or cervical smears or even just BP checkecks if I was given proper grade 3 PPE. My professional expertise to deliver non-Covid care to those people we would normally protect is being ignored. All i expect is high grade personal protection.

I said lobby your MP. In my view the only way out of this mess bar a vaccine is to accept that the vulnerable shield, most of whom are bar the elderly who refuse to be corralled and maybe so eventhough this limits their ability to interact/meet family who are shielding. I haven't seen my mum since Feb 2020 and maybe will never do so so but she knows what I expect if I am ever to bring her here.dy positivedy

We need commonsense rather than dictats. My daughter was ill in March as was her spouse. He was much more ill than she was was. She has been tested and is antibody positive so it is beyond belief he isn't. I am certain no bookkie would offer oddds on it.

Goverment needs to accept that older members of the population will act in their own interest and the younger population are uncontrollable unless we are willing to impose martial law.

Sorry re spelling, couldn't find corrective button

It is an interesting debate, and not one thats easy to answer. As Shelly1960 has said shielding felt like house arrest for some and I know of others who felt the same.

Yet on the other side others feel we should be shielding until this is over.

I guess whatever stance you take you arent going to make everyone happy.

I agree on common sense approach, yet we have witnessed time and again that common sense is often in short supply. I guess if we could rely on common sense there would be no need for a rule of six, shutting pubs at 10 and so on.

I dont particularly want to shield right now, I am happy to make my own risk assessment, if i go somewhere i feel looks unsafe, too busy, i wont enter or will leave.

Of course i cant be 100% sure but there are risks in everyday life.

That said i am a fairly fit 49 yo who happens to have a couple of conditions that make me vulnerable, and i have a massive benefit a lot dont and thats being able to work 100% from home.

Hopefully the news coming out regarding the vaccine is positive and we can all get on with a relatively normal life sometime next year.

I agree with Paul. Here in Germany we had no shielding guidelines it was very much a personal responsibility/common sense approach. It’s difficult to trust the newspapers but it does seem that in the next few months the first groups will be vaccinated. These will probably be health care workers those over 80 years and those in the highest risk groups.( Not sure that will include all MPNs ) Hopefully that will have a significant impact on numbers of deaths. We have been told Germany will have some 60 vaccination centers. We will require a doctors referral

I think it should be up to the individual but their choice should be supported and they shouldn't have to chose between risking their health and poverty. Here's a UK petition on the subject bloodcancer.org.uk/get-invo...
