Histamine Pruritus or itch

Anyone had a huge histamine flare-up with COVID? Itch has been constant since 2am. I’m waiting for my GP to call me back. Shouldn’t be COVID as I’ve been isolating since 13th March.

Hi Eleanor, oh that's not nice. I know you've probably tried all but extra water, moisturiser? Is it an actual allergy and nothing to do with PV? Dont think it's a covid symptom.xx Aime 😻😻

Yip now on antibiotics. Managed to speak with my own GP and COVID team duty doctor, amazing NHS service. Could be COVID but also could be a bacterial lung infection. Plan is to monitor my oxygen levels and phone an ambulance if they drop. I’ve no problems breathing. Spent most of the day sleeping.

itch is still here. Can't find ranitidine anywhere. Beta alanine is helping for an hour. Any other suggestions? My body feels dehydrated but I'm drinking more than enough.

I can't i'm afraid but to just carry on with what you've been doing especially with the water, little sips, little and often. 🤞Warm wishes, tina.x 😊

Sure hope this has nothing to do with COVID 19. Most likely PV or other dermatologic related issues. You may have to go with straight topical treatments. I would try Eucrisa (prescription PDE4 inhibitor). It works quite well for Eczema flares and my doc says it will work for pruritis too. There are also the other conventional interventions, like an oatmeal bath, that may help.

Hope you get relief ASAP. Do let us know how you get along.

Interesting approach - off label use of a histamine blocker with primary clinical indications for gastrointestinal issues. Do note that it is sometimes used for skin/rash issues. Of interest - it may have the side effect of reducing thrombocytes.

Hope it works for you. The itching is maddening! Feel better soon!!
