Atrial fibrillation

Hello, Has anyone developed atrial fibrillation that has been attributed to either ET or the medication ? I’ve had a couple of episodes and with the latest one my Dr sent me to A and E for treatment and I will have to see a cardiologist.

Thankyou

I have been diagnosed with ET and on Hydroxycarbamide for over 7 years now. For about 4 years I have been diagnosed as having permanent AF which rather than ablate or operate in anyway they are medicating with Amiodarone, they had to give me a few zaps with Cardioversions along the way.

However neither the Cardiology or Haematology teams have ever suggested that my ET or Hydroxycarbamide were to blame. I did ask whether there was a link as they found a PFO, a small hole in the heart, and I suggested that this would allow oxygenated/de-oxygenated blood to cross to the incorrect chambers of the heart but all they said was that the flow through the hole is minuscule. I could not find any evidence online re my theory but when looking didn’t find anything relating AF to ET either.

At my last hospital appointment I was discussing a really annoying tickly cough that will not go away. He sent me immediately for an ECG and a chest X-ray.

He said that in some rare instances Hydroxycarbamide can cause heart and lung problems.

Hope all goes well with cardiologist Juliet.

Grace.
