Have been on Hydroxy for 2 years now without suffering the dreaded mouth sores but all of a sudden I have had 2 cold sores and now have two very painful mouth ulcers. What is the best thing to treat these please. Even a cup of tea is so sore on my inner mouth. Cheers guys xx

Hi Jilly, yet again, really hard for you having to cope with yet more....but I warmly recommend virgin organic coconut oil and worth looking up sites about it....check 'mouth sores and coconut oil'....I did have a bad time with one of the drugs, causing mouth sores, and found this definitely helped. Very, very best wishes, Tinkerbell13

As I always advise don't waste thi brass on overth' counter 'cures' . They don't work. A salt mouthwash is as good as owt and cheap. I used a small amount of salt in lukewarm water. Use a mouthwash everyday like Difflam , I got it on prescription. It might help keep them at bay. They're rotten little blighters.

Yes to lukewarm salt water mouthwash!

If dry mouth is a problem, you might try chewing (gently!) a cardamom pod and keeping it in your mouth - it seems to help keep your mouth moist (which should make it harder for sores to develop) as well as helping to counter infection and inflammation.

Hi Jilly ,

Just popped by seen you posts

I think we have the same problem also with Trigger Mental Nuralger had a really bad spell last year , I can only describe it as a electric shock pain ( awful it is )

I also get the dreaded mouth ulcers

They two appeared after being on HU for sometime, I get a prescribed antiseptic mouth wash it's brilliant,

I have very sensitive taste buds now also

Anything salty or spicy is a no no ,

Sending you warm wishes

& your mama 2 xxx

Hiya. I used tea tree oil on a cold sore I had recently. It cleared it up really quickly. I've become a real fan and I've found it has loads of uses.

Tell your haemo of course-warm salt washes used to be the way -you may need to go off hydrea.

I get them from time to time. I paint them with Urgo filmogel for mouth ulcers, not sure what is available in the UK, but ask your pharmacist. It tastes a bit strange but deadens the pain straight away, and the ulcer goes in a day or two. Also, be careful when eating: I slice up apples finely and chew food well.
