The difference ,changing my intake of good healthy eating ,is now being proved by my results at the clinic I attend, I stopped eating dairy ,we really don't need it,think what it is ,it's cows milk for her calf. All processed shop bought food ,we don't really know what are the ingredients,do we??if I don't recognise it I don't put it in my mouth ..easy isn't it? Watch your energy and your mood lift,I use honey for energy ,you never see a lazy bee,,,,, Get buzzin!! Xx

Hi Twinkly - Hmm fair play to you from this old cynic and as you may have guessed Im not easily convinced by all this go green mullarky as I reckon our bods need a balanced diet including a percentage of quality red meat, tasty cheeses, milk - gold top if I could still get it - - you will recall that haha - etc to sustain us and although I can appreciate the apparent benefits to you and many others who opt for the lifestyle.I would never consider adopting it. I buy the best produce I can afford especially meat. And I read the labels to see whats in it and particularly where it is sourced. So I go some way to my ideal of healthly eating as there is some dodgy grub out there to be avoided for sure.

My beloved sister is vegetarian and is regularly 'under the weather' and I know she craves a juicy steak but I am in awe of her willpower - unless there's something she hasn't fessed up to. . I say if your happy with your lifestyle whatever it is and it seems to work for you then live and let live. Hope you're keeping well and I admire your resolve. Cheers JR

Hi JR,

I'm up at 6 every day, cup of tea in bed before I start my day, and yet again you've made me laugh! I agree with you, I try to eat healthily, lots of fruit and veg, but I do love a steak and a nice cream cake occasionally. I think I'm quite lucky with my PV, not many symptoms and tolerate Hydroxy really well. Still work full time, but pace myself and if feeling particularly tired take a days holiday from work. I do see where Twinkly is coming from and if my symptoms got worse then maybe I would look at diet further as she has.

Twinkly, I've tried again to read the ph diet book and find it very radical and really don't think I could stick to it. I noticed on a previous post that you had 2 boiled eggs for breakfast but the book says no dairy or eggs? Have you adjusted the diet to suit you? You obviously have had some great results.

Love to all x

Hi everyone.

I agree with dear Twinkly!

12 months ago I decided to cut all the chemicals additives and preservatives that I could out of my diet. Ie all processed food.

After all we're filling our bodies with chemicals with the drugs we take, best to get rid of the ones we eat in our food.

I buy ONLY organic chicken and salmon ( we have friends who deal in the food and antibiotics given to these two particular things, and they only buy organic too - tells me something) and certain organic food and veg. No caffeine. At all, in anything. No decaff.

Only organic sugar and sea salt. No dairy produce, I'm with you twinkles!

Too much info to give you here, but I really really recommend you look at the Penny Brohn cancer care website, contact them and ask for the soil assn organic food info.

Extremely enlightening. You certainly don't need to cut out meat.

Since I tried this diet/ lifestyle the fatigue associated with PV has reduced by 80% . Yey!

xx

I love that J.R.he sounds like my biker son ,who was 50 this week, he enjoys the good things in life as much as possible ,good on you ,I eat chicken and eggs because I became glutton intolerant when I first went on hydroxi my diet became so limited just fruit and veg meant my social life became limited ( if you get my meaning)I make cakes now too but I know the ingredients that's the difference,I cook all my own food and take it with me to outings,it's easy if we plan ahead, went back to Tupperware ...

I cant help recall the words of the somewhat dissolute Peter O'Toole who kept fit by walking behind the hearses of his healthy friends.

Tommy, I know you are having a problem eating ,try not to eat too much bread ,eat soft eggs, try soup made at home, soft vegetables cooked at home, try not to eat on big plates ,little plates every 3 hours.drink water in between ,not with your food ,it makes your tummy bloat up .it gives you pain, try to eat regularly, little and often.dont drink fizzy drinks at all, especially cola cola,it's so bad for us,,

You are an inspiration

I'm on the same path, just not as far along. I really appreciate the benefits of stopping consumption of processed food...still struggling to let go of a spot of milk in my tea. I've always loved my greens life is better with copious amounts of fruits and veggies! Thanks for the encouragement.

At last, someone's talking about this!

I was diagnosed with PV last year and have changed my diet and lifestyle fairly radically (it wasn't too bad to start with, I thought) No red meat (even good quality). Haematologists admit it produces more blood cells. Masses of veg, low dairy (working on none). High quality fish and chicken. Nuts. No bread and especially no shop bought industrial rubbish (esp. cakes and biscuits). Extra fish oils as suppliments and, olive leaf tincture, loads of water. A little regular exercise everyday. This is an 'anti inflammatory' diet which would have a positive effect over a multitude of diseases esp. cardio vascular. My counts started to go down and I refused treatment to start with, although I have had first venesection to be on the safe side 10 days ago. Never felt better. Aspirin everyday only.

Hi boss I'm so pleased to get a positive feed back .i wondered was it just coincidence when after months of venesection every 4 weeks at the clinic hYdroxycarbamide plus a blood thinning every day ,I completely changed my diet and routine ,smaller healthy snax less dairy, more home made soups, and juices.my results changed ,for 6 months I was so well.it amazed the staff at the hospital. Now I'm on the Majic trial ,I take ruxolitinib .,so far ,so good,I'm slowly becoming convinced,,it can help to take back some control of a life that once was mine...

Morning everyone from Windy Windermere!

To any unbelievers in organic diets out there! google

The Penny Brohn cancer care centre

And ask them to send their organic food information spiel to you.

You might just change your minds.....

I think Maz is hoping to organise someone from Penny Brohn to speak at the next forum - as far as I can see, whilst our bodies are taking in chemicals in the form of drugs, we need to avoid putting putting in chemicals in the form of pesticides, additives, preservatives and antibiotics.

If you only do one thing today stop buying chicken unless it's organic ( We have a friend who supplies chicken feed and he will only eat organic chicken ! ) and only buy sustainably caught fish - avoid all the farmed stuff.

Shame on M and S for selling it in the form of Loch Muir Salmon! They sell great organic chicken, horribly expensive, but would you put lousy contaminated fuel into your car? Why then put it into your body? xxx
