Hi Soomoo - I have every sympathy for you. On one of the past posts, someone said pineapple was good for mouth sores although I haven't tried it myself. Hopefully a member of the forum with more experience will join in so you can get more advice. Kind regards Aime.

I find igloo for mouth ulcers is good. Feel your pain, it's not nice. Xx

Also I was drinking coca cola one day and my son googled it and told me it's the worst thing for them. I get them on my throat as well. It is very painful. Hope this helps. Xx

I use tea tree oil, it helps me.

I am on 1 gram a day (one capsule less than you) and have never suffered from mouth ulcers and count myself lucky. As you have only been on the hydroxy for 3 months, don't despair, you are still really in the experimental dosage stage and it may be that it could be reduced after your condition is stable. Although I am not bothered with mouth ulcers, every couple of weeks I get a choking roughness at the back of my throat which I thought was maybe due to the capsules causing irritation at the "swallow point". I try to religiously keep to drinking the required 4 litres of water a day to try to flush out my mouth and throat. I do notice a difference when I fall short. I remember the pharmacist at the hospital urging me to wash the capsules down with lots and lots of water and the fact that so many precautions have to be taken when handling them, like hand-washing etc would seem to add some logic to the argument that they can be an irritant to some degree. Hope you get some improvement soon. It must be horrible for you.

Hi Soomoo, I had problems with mouth ulcers when I started on Hydroxy and still do have problems now and then, you need to tell your haematologist about the ulcers, also, ask him/her if they will prescribe an oral rinse to help you, I was given Difflam which does help. I was also advised by my dentist to be careful when brushing my teeth and to be extra careful when flossing and to be gentle so as not to irritate the gums even more. I hope they go soon. Maz

Hello Soomoo! Just came across your post, poor you, mouth ulcers are truly horrid! Now I don't get mouth ulcers because of any meds I take but for some while, before I was diagnosed, I had continuous ulcers caused by don't know what. I tried so many different things from the chemist but in the end I tried my father's cure all for mouth things - salt water. Very mild solution and in luke warm water. I tried to hold the solution as long as possible over the worst ones - not easy for the throat though. In truth it did seem to work best of all and was certainly soothing. As salt is so natural maybe you could use it as well as a prescribed med.

Hi, you have my sympathy, they are so painful, and heal slowly.

I used alcohol free mouthwash, bonjela, igloo, sugar-free lozenges, and tried to drink plenty of fluids.

I have been on Hydroxycarbamide 1g and aspirin 75mgs for over 4 years.

They have got less frequent this last year.
