Hi. I took indomethacin years ago. It made my migraine much worse and also gave me ulceration throughout my digestive system and was advised to never take any NSAIDs again. But everyone is different!

Thank you for your reply, think I'd better steer clear of that then, I already take medication for digestion problem 👍

I've taken indomethacin suppositories (and a low dose of triptans), to treat my chronic migraines for years now. It works to stop the pain, but the pain does keep coming back daily for up to a week out of every month. I take omeprazole with it to protect my stomach, but I do worry about ulcers constantly. I would never take it as a preventative, but it can stop or reduce the pain of a bad attack, especially if you can't tolerate a full dose of triptans (like me). I wouldn't recommend it except as a last choice due to the ulcer danger. But if your pain is unresponsive to other meds, it can be worth asking your doctor about.

Thankyou for your reply, I also take omeprazole, I'm like you, worried about stomach ulcers, don't want to replace one nightmare with another! At the moment, I'm on amitriptyline 3 at night, and got cocodamol and triptans to treat bad attacks. I try not to over medicate but sometimes, it's just a relief to get rid of the pain and just feel normal for a while. I'll chat with g.p when he rings thankyou and hope you're having a migraine free day x

Indomethacin is just another ibuprofen type pain killer and sometimes used as preventatives even though it creates a higher risk of having a heart attack or a stroke than people who do not take it. It can also cause ulcers just like ibuprofen if used regularly. However if a doctor is suggesting, they must have assessed these risks before prescribing.
