Migraines & Hydrocodone for RLS

The only thing that controls RLS is Hydrocodone ER.

I’ve had chronic migraines for the 4.5 of 5 months using it.

Now migraine has progressed to #7-8

24/7

Has opiates ever affected your migraine.?

I have to go off Hydrocodone ER and the nightmare of severe RLS & sleep deprivation I know I can not handle.

Yet I can not manage this migraine either

Does anyone have any ideas that may help me from your personal experience?

I just want to take my head off & place it on the nightstand until I need it again

Gabapentin or pregabalin can be used to treat nerve pain. They are not opioids but were originally developed to treat epilepsy

Do you mean restless leg syndrome by RLS?RLS, disturbed sleep patterns and migraine like headaches are all potential symptoms of B12 deficiency, Have you had your vitamin and mineral levels checked?

B12 deficiency is very difficult to diagnose from a single blood test, particularly if it is the result of an absorption problem. Symptoms develop very slowly over years or decades.

My migraines were a lot worse when I was B12 deficient.

Sorry you are in this place. I call it 'wanting an headotomy'.

I find that some aromas can help me - eg peppermint, citrus, lavendar, ylang ylang.

It might be worth talking to a pharmacist to see if they have any suggestions - particularly as they should be aware of any potential interactions with your medication

Thank you for your response.I have B12 injections monthly and use essential oils on a regular basis.

Migraines were very well controlled to 5 per month, & treatment Nurtec works beautifully, when it’s not caused by opiates.

Opiates are the only thing that has controlled the severe RLS.

Went thru 3 years trying everything.

Medication wise, supplements & behaviors.

I love that..... “headotomy!”

All opiates can cause medication overuse headaches or rebound headaches. I have chronic migraines, for about 20 years, I am only allowed 8 days a month when I can take a triptan or opioid painkiller so as not to cause continuous headache. Can you talk to a GP to look for an alternative for your RLS?

I see a a sleep medicine doctor who specializes in RLS.Also @ the U of WA in Seattle, I have a sleep medicine doctor, who works with my local Dr. & I.

It’s ironic that when RLS was not being treated efficiently I also would have migraines from the sleep deprivation.

I know how you feel I'm an insomniac we don't seem to have any sleep doctors/medicine in the UK. I've given up looking now. But unfortunately opioids and migraineurs are a bad combination!
