I have been weaning off of topamax for over two months and still experience insomnia. I only drop 12 mg every few weeks (cut the tablets into quarter) I was on topamax, 50 mg, for about 12 years. I’m wondering how long the insomnia lasts? I’m amazed at how hard this has been

Topamax withdrawal
Yes I am weening off from some of my topamax also because I am taking memantine for headaches and migraines now. It is a wonderful drug. Memantine is being prescribed "off label " because FDA has only approved it for memory loss up-to-date. I and my two sisters are all taking memantine for headaches and migraines with very good results very few headaches and migraines in the whole month. I started with 5 mg with breakfast and 5 mg with dinner , in 30 days time I had one migraine three headaches. Then my doctor changed my medication to 10 mg twice a day. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to plan and live life again. Will keep you updated.
It looks like a good option. I’m wondering about insomnia..did you notice sleep difficulties as you wean off of topamax?
No insomnia. I sleep well. I use to take 100 mg pm, 50 am. Now taking no am, and 50 mg and half of another50 mg in pm. Want to cut more soon and will be able to with this new drug Memantine. I am so happy and excited to say that this memantine is a miracle drug. No headaches and only a couple migraines in the whole month it is just wonderful!!
Forgot to tell you memantine is being prescribed off-label because FDA is only approving it for memory loss. I go to Mayo Clinic and that's where I was prescribed the Memantine off label for headaches.
