Triptans...Triptans...Triptans. It's the only thing that will break the cycle. I use a self shot Triptan, it works faster. Plus you can get meds that stop nausea, which for me usually knocks me out so I can sleep it off.
This sounds horrible - sorry to hear this. GP may try several different options (medicines) to find out which works best as a preventative (Prophylaxis), in addition to prescribing pain relief.
I am 49 and I had my first migraine at 23. I go through phases. Stress and lack of sleep = asking for a migraine in my case. Symatriptan is the only thing that stops me needing to go to the out of hours service, which use to happen a lot before. I start with ibuprofen, then cocodamol and then if these fail to kick in Sumatriptan. I don't miss so much work these days. I also find if I sit awkwardly I get a stiff next and knots in my back. Regular massage helps but I have children and I don't always have the time for this. Periods and when you ovulate can also be a problem. Lifestyle is a big issue and you have to give in and adapt otherwise you will forever end up in bed for the day. I also don't drink alcohol much as I will almost definitely wake up with a migraine just after say 2 glasses of wine. Not sure if this helps at all.
