I'm wondering if anyone has used Botox for Occipital Neurology.
Occipital Neurology: I'm wondering if... - National Migraine...
Occipital Neurology
I get Botox injections every 3 months, and i still get breakout migraines now an d then. I take Topamax regularly, Cymbalta, and Relpax when I have a breakout. I also take a powder that you mix with a few tablespoons of water called Cambia. I started getting Migraine disorder February 2015 when the headaches had been going on for a month before that. Then the middle of February it got so bad that after a few Neurologist appts. I had to go to the ER for help! They gave me Zofran and Morphine to settle the nausea and pain, then since I had to go to work I got more Morphine to go home and Barbiturates to take for the next day. For 2 years I just took the meds, then this past August I started the Botox as well. I think it helps pretty well. I still have my "days...weeks", but I don't think I'll ever go off of it. Good luck to you if you can get approved, and Cheers to you if it helps! Keep us posted!
I'm not sure, but you do bring up an interesting point! You could do a little research I suppose! Chronic Migraine Disorder is one thing that Botox treats but Occipital Neuralgia is a diagnosis that could be looked up on a variety of websites like WebMD ....Oh wait, I just looked, they said for occipital neuralgia to use gabapentin and an antidepressant. My neurologist had me on that too. Remember they will try ANYTHING before they use BOTOX! I WAS on Gabapentin (lol) and i completely forgot. It didn't really help so after a few years I went off of it...and then he put my on Cymbalta ( which is for my fibromyalgia and overall neuralgia....yes it DOES HELP!) but the blinding migraines still needed the BOTOX in the end. So all of this maybe requires a good talk with your Neurologist and a good look at your diagnosis. You sound like you're suffering enough, if you can't get something more then maybe you need a different Neurology Team!
