Hi I have Anti-MuSK MG I’m on 35mg prednisolone soon starting on Azathioprine. Any one else on this medication for MG ?

I have MG which was diagnosed in January 2017. Prednisolone increases your blood sugar levels. I started on 60mg of prednisolone which has reduced down to 5 mg. Over time I was prescribed various tablets for the diabetes and eventually I used a very low dose of insulin. I am now classed as a prediabetic and no longer take anything for diabetes. Your doctor or consultant should be advising you on reducing the prednisolone. Sorry not taking azathioprine.

I already had diabetes type 2 (on insulin) when diagnosed MG. Started with prednisolone, gradually increasing it, then gradually decreasing daily doses until prednisolone was discontinued. Then started azathioprine, now taking it for 2 years (150 mg daily).Diabetes did not deteriorate in the meantime. I was told by my doctor that it was not unusual to have this combination (i.e. diabetes + MG) and he was not concerned at all. I was taking Pyridostigmine all the time (3 x 50 mg). After two years of therapy I am in full remission and hopefully will stop taking azathioprine. All said, do not be afraid of MG and diabetes combination; eat low carb and exercise.

Azathioprine for two years now. That is well established therapy for MG. No adverse effects so far.

Taking Azathioprine for easy three years but I have developed skin problems waiting to see if drug related.
