Hi there I am suspected of having ocular myasthenia and have an urgent appointment tomorrow with a neurologist I am not sure what to expect.

When doing visual field tests my left eye closes half way through and j can’t open it it is not an ocular problem my many eye consultants have said. I also have exophoria which was controlled with prisms but now not controlled and I wear blend hem tape so only see with my right eye now. Just wondered what I might expect I am 50 years old with type 1 diabetes.

Hello, you will have blood tests and probably a single fibre emg test, which is a wee needle placed into a nerve / muscle in your eye socket area this is 99% acurate and bloody painful , gave me a black eye 😀, they take ages to let u know results usually until your next appt with neuro ! So 8 weeks maybe , also you need to tell dvla once its confirmed for insurance purposes too, im waiting to hear back from them myself, my neuro said it was up to me to inform not him but i drive for a living so i had to . Hope all goes well at your appt, never good to be told you have a disease but if youve been waiting for diagnosis for illness its sometimes good to have closure take care . M.
