Hand Foot and Mouth disease was I'm sure how I got Viral Meningitis.

I am a primary teacher and in October 2011 a few children in my class had Hand Foot and Mouth disease. However, I was told by PH dept, that once the blisters dry, the child may go back to school. Two weeks later I was diagnosed with VM and now, 10 months later, I'm still struggling to lead a normal life. I'm easily tired and photophobic, suffering regularly with blinding headaches. It was only when I happened to find a Youtube video about the Enterovirus Foundation, that I saw the link with HFM disease and Enterovirus Viral Meningitis. Now I'm worried about catching it again, as I am currently doing a phased return to work- and not coping too well with that either!

Has anyone else heard about these links, surely not a coincidence?

Hand, foot and mouth disease is a viral infection commonly caused by the coxsackievirus which is a member of a family of viruses called enteroviruses.

Enteroviruses are a common cause of viral meningitis. These viruses live in the intestines and more commonly cause colds, sore throats and stomach upsets. Only rarely do these viruses spread through the body and cause meningitis. These viruses can be passed from person to person by coughing, sneezing and on unwashed hands. Good hygiene will help to prevent the spread of viruses.
