Hello,I'd like to update regarding my husband's condition as this site has been wonderful for me and really helped me to get through the early days of the trauma of his diagnosis and treatment of bacterial meningitis.

About 3 weeks ago, there was a notable and fairly rapid improvement in mobility, steady progress now means that he can walk unaided, a little imbalanced and sloping to the side a bit( he can correct this if I ask him to)

No drips, drugs or catheter ( some loo accidents if cannot get to there quickly enough)

Eating and drinking normally.

Chatting and fully talkative when not too tired ( Tired a lot, which I am prepared for, because of the info and people's experience here)

He is very rambling a lot of the time, thinks he was chatting to a friend who died a few years ago and this sort of thing.

Not really fully orientated to what has happened, of time and place ,that he is in hospital or has been treated for bacterial meningitis, but I'm really hoping this will settle.

He has been accepted for a bed in an intensive rehabilitation facility, just over an hours drive away, so this is good news, but no idea of wait times or when this is likely to be.Its what he needs though, so very positive.

It's been very tough going, but I'm seeing a bit of light now, and would like to thank all of you fof the help and advice, the positivity...you have all been amazing!

Yep no doubt it's like taking baby steps all over. Is quite good he seems to be improving a bit daily. I will honestly say the mindset he has with communicating with the deceased friend as well as not totally understanding what's going on/his surroundings by now would be a bit concerning. Again, I can only speak for myself as every case will vary. I was barely existing for weeks (no memory of 2 weeks) until treatment for the cryptococcal finally started and once that was underway my mindset, memory, etc. improved rapidly.

Of course continue with the positive mindset and to quote what Infectious Disease told me be very patient as recovery is a very slow process. We all hope he continues to recover, take any necessary steps to help prevent a recurrence and just take each day for what it is. Good luck and it's awesome you're there for him every step!
