I was diagnosed with viral meningitis is august this year and was unwell for over 6 weeks with it and after this still wasn’t great but managing to do more and more.
Over the last few days I’ve started to experience tingling in my upper back on the right hand side, which is the same side as the neck pain I had. I’m just hoping someone has had a similar experience so I stop worrying that it’s something else?
Thanks x

I had something very similar after having viral meningitis. I had tingling that went from my neck down to my foot on my right hand side. It was a really weird feeling and my foot sometimes felt numb. It was made worse by walking or wobbling my head! Fortunately it just disappeared one day, and hasn’t ever returned. It’s definitely worth getting checked out just in case though. Wish you well x
I am 5 yrs post cryptococcal meningitis that caused quite a few issues. Now and then I have tingling, nerve tweaks, etc. in areas most affected by the damage. At first it's easy to think it's back again, but likely just nerve regeneration, etc.
Hi, I had bacterial meningitis end of last year, I still have dead spots all over that twinge occasionally and I've been reassured that the brain is trying to find a path through.Keep positive.
Yup had it in my lower back n then it progressed into numbness and went down legs and I had a TIA which is short lasting stroke. I had 4 in a week and none since. I also experienced tingling n weird sensations in my lower legs. 4 years on no more issues. Dont hesitate to get medical assistance. I called ambulance as soon as numbness set in my back. There is much not known about after effects of meningitis. Go easy and rest as much as you can. Time does heal.
Well I am three years in and I still tingle. Especially if I get stressed. My tingling ranges from my face, hands, feet and tops of my legs. I still have all kinds of weird symptoms. Don’t listen to the doctors who tell you it will be gone in a couple weeks. Untrue. It will get better and everyone is different. Just try to accept it and adjust accordingly. My life is totally different than before. I have to have quiet times to let my head stop buzzing. This forum helps in that you find you are NOT crazy.
Hi there, I had bacterial meningitis at the beginning of this year. I still have some tingle and twitch sensations in my legs and part of my right foot is numb. I also get siatica type pain as well. My neck and back have become more aches than tingles now so it shows that it just takes a while for our body’s to heal. I think it helps to listen to your body, figure out what pushes it a bit too hard and give yourself time to relax. It’s unfortunately a long road from here- something others around may not realise either. A physio may also help with helping nerves to recover. You can get referred through the NHS, but may take some time to get seen. Hope this helps!
I had extreme numbness and tingling, like my foot was asleep. It went from my feet up my legs and into my torso. This went on for months. I was having trouble walking and started having issues breathing. Doctors couldn’t figure it out. Went to probably 3 different neurologist. Friend of mines father was retired medical researcher. He ask my doctor to check my B-12. Doctor then recommended B-12 shot. I had huge improvement within 48 hours. After 3 hospitalization for meningitis 3 years in a row. I have not had another incident since 2007. But, I’ve had to take B-12 injections twice a month since then.
Hello and yes I have the same. I have both and migraines developed after viral meningitis which I thought accounted for the tingling (nerve ending sensation) but I think it is all part of the package as I was tested for MS as well. So many symptoms are the same but they come and go and never progress into anything worse. I just have bouts where all symptoms are bad and then recede as I rest up. I hope this helps make you feel more at ease.
