Can anyone relate to my symptoms & could I have mild viral meningitis? No point in seeing doctor he's clueless.

Husband works as a teacher's & brought a virus home. At first I thought it was flu with vomiting, a number of us who contracted the mystery virus are still suffering. I have a mild constant headache & neck ache which turns into to full blown foot banging agony & explosions/cracking in my head. I'm constantly tired. If I over do things slightly I begin projectile vomiting. I'm sleeping very heavily & waking up punch drunk. I've gone from 5 to 6 gym days to none. Many more symptoms. This has been going on for 5 months. My friend is having similar albeit milder symptoms. Any help would be amazing.

We are not medically trained on here, just people who have had meningitis or care/know someone who has and so cannot advise you what it might be from your symptoms. If you have been very unwell for 5 months as you describe, then you need to go and see your GP ASAP or if in UK ring 111 for advice. Meningitis can only be diagnosed by a lumber puncture.

Thanks for reply, just digging to see if anyone had similar symptoms, mild VM is the closest I can find. It's persistent virus but heavens know what (not tropical tho) My husband's been down the doctor route twice & had the usual bloods etc. NHS don't generally test for viruses, I suspect this only happens when one is admitted to hospital. Just looking for holistic info really. I've started an anti viral diet & resting in the hope I will get stronger. Getting desperate to dance again (normal do Raga & hip-hop etc, even a brisk walk floors me🙄) Thanks again & best regards.

As StrawberryCream said meningitis can only be properly with a lumber puncture but with VM it is usually caused by a virus already present but previously dormant in your system. Mine was triggered by Chickenpox. It is rare for it to be caused by a virus that you have picked up but again as StrawberryCream said if you have been unwell for 5 months then you do get checked out. The worse that can happen is that your GP says it is a virulent virus and will take time to get over, I'm in that position at the moment having had a really bad dose of flu in February and still not feeling right even now.

I agree with those who have commented. If your doctor is clueless (like mine was), you need another doctor. I thoroughly regret not going for a second opinion when my doctor kept saying there was basically nothing wrong and I knew there was something very wrong.

I continued feeling bad as u describe for 6 months, 1apt-MY local Internal medicine doctor,1apt- Physcians ast doctor & 3-emergency room visits & sent home, as soon as the headache meds wore off explosive headaches, vomiting, fatigue , finally on my last ER visit my hubby tells them he’s NOT taking me home they have to find out what’s wrong!,another ER doctor requested MRI & Lumbar Puncture showing VM. As everyone says they aren’t drs and I’m not either, but don’t understand why my drs didn’t find this sooner? I stayed 4 days in hospital, and recovery was slow but it’s been > 3 years and I’m doing well , take care hope u find answers.

I’ll tell you what you need to hear. Yes it sounds like it but it also sounds like a few other things are possible. We are just people who “experienced” it but we all need a good doctor to help us diagnose. You HAVE to get checked. You HAVE to find a doctor who will listen and test you properly. Not knowing can make whatever you have drag on. You’re obviously worried and searching for answers. Understandably. What everyone is saying here is to put the energy of searching into the right hands. Give your mind a break. Find a doc you trust. Normal blood tests will not tell you what you need to know. Only a spinal tap will reveal the correct information. That is how meningitis is revealed.
