Hi. I'm 45 yrs old and was diagnosed with listeria bacterial menengitis in March 2018. I have spent 3 months in hospital and then home. It's been an intense struggle for me and i would like to know if it gets easier. Looking to know I'm not alone with this recovery

Hi there most people do find improvement so it’s rare that you won’t improve at all.but it’s very long recovery or can be. You’ve had a very severe version of meningitis and this will take time. I had very severe viral meningitis and I’m in year 7 post illness. It’s taken that long to turn the corner and it was only 2018, so 6 years after the disease. First 2 years couldn’t work. Had almost all that time off. Pain and chronic migraines. Exhaustion and sickness. Slowly built up. Ate green and healthy and sought treatment. Get a neurologist. I still have one and go 4 times a year. Have osteo, physio dietician, take preventatives for migraines and might have to forever.

Don’t give up. Get the extra treatment where u can. You will improve but realistically , a decent brain disease can be decade of recovery. Don’t despair, you are not alone in this.
