I had Bacterial Meningitis and was in a coma for 3 weeks and not expected to survive. If you click on my name you can read my profile. I did experience quite a lot of recovery gradually in the first 2 years. But I do have some ongoing problems which are not going to resolve, so this is me.
Hi Strawberry Cream, thank you for your reply, I have read your profile, you certainly went through it, I to was not expected to live and a dr in the hospital calls me the miracle, it’s a bizarre feeling knowing yo might not have been here. How are you now, I hope you have help in looking after your little boy, I now realise it’s a long journey back. Take care and sending warm wishes and much love to you x
Hi Chahanjen,
I've had both bacterial and VME. I experienced drooling only when hospitalized. I've been on baclofen for another condition for two decades; while hospitalized, doctors took me off all meds, adding them incrementally when I stabilized. Without baclofen, I'm dysphagia 1. Through an inflamed brain I remember trying to say "can't swallow" after all the tubing was removed. Although dysphagia and drooling aren't the same, saliva has to go somewhere. If you're having problems swallowing in addition to the drooling, tell your doctor or speech pathologist. Central nervous system or autonomic--treatment may vary.
Hi LaPaloma, thank you for your reply,I think my dribbling is down to my droopy mouth, which I hope will improve, as it was caused by the palsy, my eye is improving, as I can now close it and have a blink, so I am hoping when I go for my check up next month I won’t have to tape it every night. I am amazed at the different medical conditions meningitis has caused to people, we need to be more aware.
In typical post-meningitis fashion, I did not read your first post correctly and responded to another post! You wrote "dribble," not "drool." Ay, this brain. Lo siento.
