My son : Today as been a bad day for me as he... - Meningitis Now
My son
Hi Pug, please don’t worry - it is still very soon after your son’s bout of Bacterial Meningitis so he will be feeling tired. Whatever his age, he will take time to recover.
It is now two months since I was discharged from hospital and I still have periods of deep fatigue if I have been busy, but I am so, so much better than I was. For the first month I needed to sleep a lot during the day. I also ached very much in my joints - especially my ankles and elbow. And I am still aching if I don’t keep exercising my joints. He might also feel a little confused, maybe dizzy, maybe with headaches. Most, if not all of this, will get better. He just needs time and to be allowed to uncover his abilities and strength again, in his own time.
I couldn’t have improved as quickly as I have done if I had not the support of my family and my doctor and physiotherapist. Your support and understanding is very important to him. Keep reading the other people’s posts here - they will help you to understand, but more importantly they will help him if you share them with him. Be strong - and try not to worry.
Thank you so much. He is five and I think what annoys me the most is one hospital turned us away early hours of the Friday morning and if it hadn’t been for the other hospital when we got there they worked so hard as he only had minutes at the time .
