I was diagnosed with viral meningitis 3 weeks ago. In hospital for 5 days. Still off work. I am having constant ringing in my ears, nagging headaches, a popping sensation in my right ear and severe upper back and posterior arm pain that worsens when I am fatigued. It feels like shooting nerve pain all the way down to my hands. Has anyone else experienced this type of pain and how long did it take for it to go away? I have a very active job and I'm concerned I won't be able to manage work if this doesn't improve.

Viral Meningitis Upper Back and Arm Pain
Hi, I have left ear popping, pressure, noises too loud ,wear earplugs to help. I also have r shoulder pain radiating down arm to thumb, My neurologist says it's overactive nerves that were damaged from VM two years ago. I was DX with MS 17 years ago, so very familiar with nerve damage symptoms, overactive nerve signals relaying pain instead of movement signals & its worse when fatiqued. I did receive lidicane shots, then Botox/lidicane shots every 3 months to calm the nerves to stop the pain did the shots for a year. Good luck with ur recovery and wishing u the best.

I developed nerve pain two years after viral meningitis. The pain was like someone attempting to break my upper arm over an anvil. It was worse when I lay down so didn't sleep for weeks. It went suddenly for 24 hrs but then returned as a burning knife. I had a scan which showed my 4th vertebrae was pressing on my spinal cord, I wonder if that was due to the inflammation when I had VM. A lot of bad things were happening at that time in my life. A miracle occurred when I saw a Kineseologist here in London. She sourced the pain to be from emotions associated with my heart, in my case abandonment. She released it and after a flood of tears the pain just disappeared, after three months of suffering. I still have a mild tingling/numbness in my thumb now, some six months later but the pain has returned. I hope this helps, there are ways of healing, just not conventionally. Good luck.
Yes I had ear ringing and still have some popping. Also nerve tingling in various spots. Parasthesias they are called. It's been 18 months and the nerve issues are gone. You'll find that you'll make progress and then regress. This is normal! You'll think it's gone and then it may come back in a lesser way. Just be kind to yourself. Don't over rest though.
Hi there, please read my daughter, Rosie S's Story on this site. She, like you was in a terrible state post VM for near on two years, but after having some cranial massage sessions, from a cranial osteopath, she is pretty much cured and feels back to her old self. It's the only thing that worked for her after trying antidepressants and varied painkillers. This has been such a recent breakthrough, that she has been in local newspapers and now a radio station would like to interview her in order to spread the word. Wishing you luck with your recovery. Xx
