Does anyone have any experience on being an appointee. As an Appointee for my daughter in dealing with energy company etc if my daughter does not have sufficient funds to pay her bills because waiting for benefits to come through am I liable to pay the bill as I am a pensioner and find paying my own bills a challenge I am seriously worried that I will be asked to makeup the shortfall

I’m pretty certain you wouldn’t be liable. You could approach the utility company and ask if your daughter can pay £1 a month until her benefits come through, but if she hasn’t got £1 then they will have to wait. Please make sure she’s on their list of vulnerable customers. There’s a link, to do that, if you click on the bit of the web site for people who are having difficulty paying their bills. Also some power companies have a bursary fund and will use that to help people who are hard-up.
