Access for living Lewisham London

I have 2 brothers with learning disabilities who live in a supported living home run by Access for Living

Access for Living is giving them inadequate amounts of food and poor quality. I want to put a fridge in their room and provide them with a better quality of food and drink for their health and well-being. I want their food and drink stored separately from the other residents.

I also want to redecorate their room with warmer colours and hang up family pictures and other pleasant hangings because at present their room is institutionalised.

I would just buy the fridge tell them you have bought it and tell them what day you want to bring it or can you bring them food that doesnt need a fridge like fruit ,tinned fruit, soups tuna ,beans they are all quite healthy they can leave them in their room.

Have you discussed your concerns with those who support your brothers, manager or someone higher up in the company and see if they are willing to improve the situation after all your brothers are likely paying towards their support. They should at least be fed adequately. If they can't or won't change the situation, they will need to have a very good reason. Tell them your plans to improve things. I believe you should be able to do the things you want to do especially decorating their room and hanging pictures etc, making it home from home which it should be. I don't see a problem with the fridge either, but I would address this with someone who manages rather than support workers. Do they make their own meals?

you will expect at for the food to be enough ...... its quite a shame , raise your concerns because in learning the environment must be stimulating and exciting.

Bring your concerns up with the managers, I completely understand, that is one of my biggest concerns for my son if he ever goes into supported living as he has a really good eclectic diet. I also don’t see why you can’t decorate their room for them and make it more homely. Why should our loved ones live in stark uninviting places.

You sound like a wonderful brother. Good luck.
