Anyone Autistic Spectrum who has found you or someone your Carer for, had wrongly been diagnosed Schizophrenia & how did you challenge ?

Just wondering if anyone, before or after ASD diagnosis. My Son was diagnosed by Amht Schizophrenia aged 18, but I feel he should of been Assessed for ASD. He's now 34yrs old & has Trauma's ontop. Could diagnosises be mixed up. He does shout now to Voices or are these Replays going round & round, because he knows who these voices are & traumas they've come from. He does also have Developmental Dyspraxia, Adhd, Dyslexia, Delayed Processing, ASDc

Hey, we’ve been in this situation. He was 21 when he got the diagnosis. Unfortunately, he had to be sectioned and this was when the doctor said it was completely wrong: I’d ask for a second opinion to be done by another mental health trust as majority are “friends” or know each other in the same trust. The medication causes so much damage, they don’t need antipsychotics, unfortunately now we carnt stop them which infuriates me.

It’s just apart of his autism the voices, he talks to figures and reacts out movie scenes which can be positive or a sign of negative such as trauma causing him to self harm.

Sorry you've also had this & yes we are also very frustrated. And have to continue Medication
