After 8 years our 33 year old son with Downs and autism has suddenly been served notice by his care provider. There has been virtually no discussion or consultation with us. My last meeting with them was in June and an e mail from them just 3 weeks ago with what they were doing to address some issues with behaviour which I think are anxiety driven. They have been saying that the local authority has been underfunding and they have had to top up care.
Any ideas of how to halt process or at least slow it to give us some time?

Hi, we all seem to have been cast aside as social services struggle to deal with teenagers after Covid?!!! Try go referral to memory clinic, age concern or cut. Advise. GPS have mental health clinics too these days. Please report y progress here? If only to vent y frustrations?!! & a smile is a great relief I find? Good luck
Hi Celgee12 , this sounds like a very stressful situation and unfortunately with the pressures on the social care budget, we've heard examples where service providers have handed contracts back to the local authority as they could no longer run at a loss.
If you haven't already, it would be worth contacting our Learning Disability Helpline to talk to our trained advisers there - you can reach them free on 0808 808 1111 or by email on help;ine@mencap.org.uk if you prefer. Our advisers will be able to let you know about your son's legal rights, the obligations of the local authority, and what the next steps should be. Hope that helps.
As the other poster in the thread said, please let us know how you get on.
