Can’t believe there is going to be a public enquiry

Re supported living

Some of the neighbours are acting like a lynch mob

Totol snobbery

Every one is entitled to live their lives without harassment

As if things are not tough enough for parents

It’s so difficult we don’t want the return of institutions as that’s inhumane in my humble opinion, but it’s another thing our loved ones living in communities with others as many people don’t want this on their doorstep. How do you strike the right balance I really don’t know. My son is living in a purpose built building on a very nice private estate in Surrey about to move again due to it closing. But the neighbours don’t like all the staffs comings and goings and shift changes or they’re taking clients out, and the constant noises that come from some of the residents which on the other hand I get as well so what do you do. Such a difficult balance I certainly don’t have the answer I wish I did. I’m so sorry you’re going through all this because as you say our lives are hard enough.

We all have to live with neighbours who may be seen as nuisance ie family gatherings/Constant dog barking/Loud music we don’t hold any public enquiry we have to live with it

The outcome will be very interesting as it affects millions of people living in supported living

Even the elderly who may at some point need to receive care in their own home

Including the lynch mob (neighbours)

The neighbours are saying the care company who support are running a business from the houses

There are a few supported houses in the area

What do they mean by a business?excuse my ignorance. Care company's are a business or do they mean something extra. Who do the houses belong to, is it social housing or is it privately owned, or do they belong to the care company. I know a lot of care companies are under the umbrella of charity status but in my eyes are businesses but that is my opinion due to the lack of care my son has received in supported living. It has nothing to do with the neighbours. Sorry but I'm confused.

It is important that people get their say, in any given situation, but we all deserve to receive support, in surroundings that make lives as normal as possible, eg access to Support, Care, Community, Outside spaces for Wellbeing. Sadly there is Snobbery & these people I feel are more interested in the Value of their Properties going down, than Care of people in the Community. The Care System are trying to bring Change, which Needs to happen. The Old ways ie Institutions & people being Locked away for Years, eg Autistic people, Mental Health & the Abuse in some, means of course, this Change is a Must for our Loved One's. As with Anything, there will be people For & Against. Society, people need Educating & to realise this is the new Norm, suffering has gone on too long & it's about time we had Real Care in the Community & much more in the way of Supported Living.

Your right!! And it shouldn't have to be that way. Suicide rates have tripled & the age groups are from what I've heard/seen are from as young as 5yrs old, which is Absolutely Awful!!! Another eg Schools, Anxiety, fear, Unmet Needs, Environment issues, Abusive behaviour & not just from Students. Education re Autism etc is being Offered, but Needs to be Mandatory, right across All Services, incl NHS, Medical, A & E, Justice System, Law, Courts & Housing. More availability & reclassification, eg Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, should Equal to Physical Disabilities, Health.

This is absolutely terrible .The places I have visited lately for my son have been horrible . He is 39 this year and I know I should get him somewhere to move onto but nothing has been suitable . The thoughts of people not wanting LD people living near them shows that nothing has changed about the prejudice they face in this so called careing society . I can fully undersatand parents not wanting to leave there adult children in these places and bad thoughts come into thier minds .

The perfect place and great environment with all the home comforts and vacilities to have a good life were they and staff will be happy to stay , wich is secure if needed and well monitored by the authorities . Pool and farm would be nice . Ha ha... Medical unit near by ... All in my dreams I know but why cant they have what other people take for granted . Just my opinion.

£5000- £6000 upwards per week per person for residential care ?

Maybe I should hold a public enquiry to move their neighbours out for what could be seen as a hate crime

Yes ,it wouldnt be tolerated by other members of society . Sad part is that some or most of the residents probably dont understand that they are not wanted . They have no prejudices and are innocent ,this is why people can be so cruel ... ..It hurts thier parents/ carers , perhaps thier mental health should be considered too.

Sallyana please keep us informed of the situation, interested to know the outcome. Believe me we are all behind you and hope it's resolved in the most positive way so your son and others can live happy healthy lives without prejudice, which is their right. x
