My young lady is 18 and just moved into supported living house.
We had our financial assessment and I was told she would have to pay a contribution to her care costs.
Is it not discrimination to give pip and enhanced UC in one hand because there is a high need and extra costs. Then take it away to pay for care , leaving £134 a week to live on including all bills. Socity already adds on what I call disability tax to all items with send or disability in title or discrimination.
Guess I was shocked and worried that she will not have enough money to survive.

The system isn’t fair. I know lots of parents that have to subsidise their children and help them pay for stuff. It’s one of the reasons we chose residential care over supported living.
The first time we discovered this clawing back of benefits by the local authority we too questioned it as it seemed counter intuitive to give benefits with one hand and take them away with the other, but it is 'the system' and there doesn't appear to be anything that can be done to alter it.
hi there. Social care charging is a complicated area and is at the discretion of the local authority. Most will charge however but the treatment between different local authorities is extremely varied. Check out bringing us together and inclusion London websites for more guidance and information. It will be a challenge navigating this minefield but if you don’t your young person won’t have enough to live on and you will need to subsidise if you can.
