Hello,

Does anyone have any advice on these charges. My young adult is living back home and has support to attend a farm twice a week. The Local authority provide taxi and a support worker to go to the farm with her. They don't provide personal care this is all being done by myself. When her supported living placement failed she came home and I do all appointments & provide full care & support.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

When adult social care provide any services they make a charge for these which is means tested on your daughters benefits. How much they charge is a postcode lottery as it is at the discretion of each Local Authority but it must not be more than the service provided actually costs (don’t forget they will might be paying for her place at the farm as well) and your daughter must not be left with less money than the government’s set Minimum Income Guarantee which is about £135 a week I think. It doesn’t matter if your daughter receives 24/7 or a couple of days support, the charge will be the same. If you are providing all her personal care and support outside of these two days, it might be an idea to start thinking about the future when you are not around to do so, and look to increasing outside support. Remember, if you say you are willing to do it all, the LA will assess that as the best way to meet her needs and you won’t get any extra help. 🌸
