Hi everyone,

E-sports are a huge thing these days, with people all round the world playing computer games like FIFA, Rocket League, or Fortnite against each other over the internet.

That's why Mencap is looking for people with a learning disability who have a passion for gaming to help us plan a fundraising event taking place in March 2023.

We'd love to hear from gamers to help make decisions about how the event will look, how we tell people about the fundraiser and how we can make sure it is inclusive for people of all abilities to take part.

hi Maurice_Mencap im 38, i have learning disability and classic autism myself fand id love to help in any way i can. what exactly do i need to email them?

disabled gaming activism,especialy within LD is a big thing for me,ive been making a lot of developers aware on making games LD friendly for many years-as well as gamers who didnt realise we like to game as well .

there isnt a official number for te amount of learning disabled gamers,but i do know there is oficial research that says 20 percent of gamers are disabled,id say its a lot higher-theres probably a lot of LD gamers who were not counted in that though because they rarely make the forms asking questions very acesibe for those of us who struggle to process language, who cant read or struggle severely to read.

many learning disabled people woud love to game but not many games,especialy triple A games are built to acomodate our needs.

so please count me in.

You can just send them an email to say that you're interested in the esports advisory group and leave your contact details. I think what you've said there is exactly the kind of knowledge and understanding the team would be looking for!

hi Maurice_Mencap thankyou so much it doesnt matter at all to me about waitingf as i know other people have things to do other than gamign and art like me lol.

i had thought the group might only want people who are experieced in multiplayer first person shooter games like counter strike GO, so i am very happy to hear its still ok to email them. my experience is mostly in single player because i really struggle with processing fast infomation (visualy and mentaly) ,multiplayer FPSs and tactical/group FPSs are not very LD friendly and trheir communities can be quite toxic-like CSGO which atracts a lot of nasty people quick to abuse new users,or in my case LD users-ive had people award me with nasty disablist awards to the point i had to contact valve and ask them to remove them from my acount which they understood and were very quick and helpful.

ill write the mencap staff an email tomoroe morning from 7am before i go to my art studio session as ive had all of my night meds and PRN tonight and itd probablt be double my usual post size if i did it now lol.

just to add ive now got a new games console as from today,ive waited 2 years for it i think,i put a reserve on it last year when they brought the reserves out for the most expensive one.i didntr realise it was going to be delivered so quick from the netherlands. its the steam deck (photo is of it without its case next to my nintendo switch,ive got the 512gb steam deck,some people are trying to sell these for over 1000 on ebay.

a large sized hand held PC games console. it will feel similar to a sega game gear.
