Cruse bereavement service or speak to the association who support families with loved ones who have Downes syndrome or contact the Mencap helpline

Hi Natasha,

I recently lost my Mum so my sons Nan. We have had great support from our local community LD team they are doing grief work with him amongst other activities as he is struggling to understand his feelings and where his Nan had gone.

I found this from Mencap on my old emails from Health Unlocked. I had some easy read documents and advice from speech and language therapist when my LD daughter lost her grandad.

"Hello

There are been quite a few posts recently from people who have lost someone. I wanted to let you know about GriefChat which is available on Mencap's website - mencap.org.uk/advice-and-su...

You can chat directly to a specially trained bereavement counsellor. You can remain anonymous or provide your name, whichever you prefer.

It is free.

Just go the webpage above and a box will pop up (in the bottom right of your screen) and you can just type in there.

GriefChat is available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 9pm (or by email out of these hours to info@griefchat.co.uk).

There is also an easy read guide here - mencap.org.uk/sites/default...

I hope this helps if this is something you are facing.

Best wishes

Sarah"
