It’s Activism week and Mencap staff and supporters have been working hard over many months to give people with learning disabilities and autism, family members and carers, accessible information about Covid-19 and the health pandemic.
We know that the rules have been very complicated and confusing. People with a learning disability and autism have been watching the government's press briefings to get the most up to date information.
It's important that people understand the rules as they are potentially at a high risk. We believe that the government must make press briefings accessible for people with learning disabilities.
What do you think about the way the covid crisis has been communicated to the learning disabled community?
How has it made you, or the people you support, feel?
How do you think the government could be more clear about how they communicate the Covid rules?
Attached to this post is the first page of an easy read guide to washing your hands, one of the many information sheets that Mencap have produced to help people understand what they can do to keep safer during this time.
You can get this guide from the Mencap website or reply to this post for a pdf copy.
Other easy read documents have included information about social distancing, face coverings and much more.
