For anyone who isn't aware, the learning disability register is a list of all the people with a learning disability that the GP surgery looks after. It helps your doctor and healthcare staff know what support you need.
Benefits of being on the register include:
* Health checks each year (for people over 14)
* Free flu jabs to protect you in winter
* Covid booster vaccinations
* Longer appointments
* Reasonable adjustments
Have a look at our website for more information, including easy read guides in a range of different languages.
Oh that's brilliant Clouds12 , good to hear that your son has been helped by being on the learning disability register. We'd love to hear more about it, and if you were willing to share your story to help encourage others to sign up that would be amazing! Drop me a direct message if that is something you'd be interested in. 🙂
My son recently went to the dentist, he's 23, we've never been asked by the Dentist to tick a box if he receives benefits and it wasn't clear what one to tick. Last week I received a letter from the NHS Penalty Notice saying I have to prove the benefit he's on. I had to ring straightaway otherwise was threatened with some kind of penalty charge? The person answering the phone wanted to speak to my son, I said he's non verbal. Then she said to write an email stating I look after his finances etc. These places never let up cos now they want proof who I am, DOB etc. I think this is going too far. I've even said he has Universal Credit & PIP. All these departments make it harder and harder for carers who have more than enough to do each day. I think the system used to be easier, now all complicated and computers have definitely not made things easier for us. Maybe them!!
Hi oakvill , thanks for letting me know, my mistake! The second link in the post wasn't working, but it's fixed now. Here's the link again for you. 😀
