Can someone help me please. My son is living in supported living. But doesn't pay rent or bills. But he has to buy his own food. And clots everyday essentials. Will he still be able to get his esa money. He has had his care component taken because he's not paying rent. Thankyou soraya

I believe there is a difference between 'supported living' and residential. My daughter still gets ESA in supported living and housing benefit meets the rent. She still has to pay for bills, food and personal spend e.g. toiletries etc. and an assessed contribution to care.

Thanks for your reply. But my son only pays for food toiletries cigarettes petrol. He doesn't pay rent or the other utility bills. It's all too confusing. I've wrote a letter to esa explaining all of this. Because I was on phone for 2 and a half hours to them the other day and still no reply. Soraya

My son is in a residential college. The care part of his pip is taken but he still gets his Universal Credit (no esa in my area). ESA should not be affected however social services may then take a chunk of it to pay his care. Has the ESA stopped?

I assume then the care provider and he’s local authority pays for that?

If that is the case then no they will not pay. But he will have ESA or disability living allowance or PIP.

So he will still get his esa. If he has to buy his food and things for himself and activities? Oh thanks for your reply my love. They have however took his care component off him it would have been better if he was paying rent as he could have got housing benefit and would have been able to keep the care component part if pip. OK thankyou for your help

He won’t definitely won’t get he’s care component because he is cared by he’s local authority he won’t get it because they take it to help with he’s care,so that money is actually already being used weather it’s help paying for he’s home or care.

But he can get ESA plus if he needs a car , he can still have it only he won’t get the care component.

ESA is for he’s daily needs food and clothes. He won’t get the highest one either because he does not pay any other bills other then food and clothes.
