Challenging behaviour do's and don'ts?

My son has severe LD, asd and ADHD. As he is getting older (now 8) his behaviour is becoming more and more challenging. Mostly around food as he wants to eat constantly but if we say no he will throw Items, hit kick headbutt and most recently spit. He does the same if his ipad runs out of battery and has to charge, and sometime these behaviours just happen without an obvious 'trigger'

We tend to just give him what he wants which I feel could be making the situation worse but his understanding is limited. We have done snack trays for the day to show him 'once gone no more' but again he became more upset and more challenging when all the food was gone. His communication is also limited. Just happy to hear advice from others as feel a little lost on what to do!

Please bear in mind that these children often have sensory processing disorders too! research it and make notes of what you find triggers, there is also Pathological Avoidance disorder goes with Autism and anxiety, when the child is anxious they inform us through behaviour meltdowns etc, So if I took my ASD girl to school environment for example, a Noisy smelly place with lots of demands, I would expect to have the most horrendous pay back at hometime! an Occupational Therapist level 3 can help check out Sensory issues, there are PDA groups around the Country for help with PDA. Look on YOU TUBE lots of information there too! then accept, relax, and Parent from the heart!

Hello Jimaze

have you seen this conversation - healthunlocked.com/mencap/p...

There are lots of ideas and links in there about coping with difficult behaviour.

It may also be worth checking with your GP if they have any advice about the behaviour and the eating.

All the best.

Sarah
