Habilitation Centers for Adults with Learning Disabilities?

What facilities are available for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who need to build skills to overcome specific personal challenges (e.g. aggressive behaviors, elopement, theft, etc. ) to live successfully in the broader community?

In Washington State, we have Habilitation Centers, which are 24hr residential communities which provide continuous formal and informal teaching until the individual is ready to transition back into the broader community.

The key I think to having a calm person, is to look at their interest, my son loved his autism school/college that he stopped his challenging behaviour and the other is communication, because they tried all methods to communicate with him (Makaton, sign language and photo/pictures) - he had choices which he liked making - going in the garden, drawing or reading or sand play or sensory play. Yeah, interest and communication really helps - hope it will help you.

Thank you! Are these autism schools/colleges 24hr residential teaching facilities? I'm an administrator at a habilitation center in Washington State, and I'm seeking to connect with others who work in similar facilities for knowledge sharing.

Here is an example of a habilitation center in WA: dshs.wa.gov/dda/consumers-a...

I'm in the UK and this was a residential college. But you might find myautismteam.com more useful - support group for people all over the world particularly :USA on this site for autism

Ok, great! I'm looking for UK counterparts. So thanks for the lead about residential colleges for children with the autism and severe learning disabilities. I'll reach out to these institutions.

If you happen to learn of UK facilities that specifically support adults with severe learning disabilities to overcome personal barriers to community living, please let me know.
