The Coronovirus is costing a lot of money and I wonder how it will be paid back?

I am being very selfish here but my son has day centre care 5 days a week which is paid for by The County Council via Direct Payments. We have been instructed to continue payments to the Daycare facility because otherwise they may not be around when care gets back to normal.I can understand that so we continue to pay despite my son not receiving care which we have been giving ourselves. To be fair after 3 weeks of him being at home we asked if he could have a couple of half days which was agreed. The carers also have been remotely caring by giving telephone support, doing quizzes on Facebook and emailing craft work etc.At the end will someone at County Hall suggest that as we have managed for 10 weeks do we really need that care at all?

Does anyone else worry?

Hi I really don’t think that will be the case at all. All day centres, colleges, clubs and facilities for people with learning disabilities are all closed. Some people will be struggling having their adult sons/daughters at home for this long period and will be so ready to get back to a routine. I don’t think they will think because you have managed, that care isn’t needed as really there wasn’t a choice due to the situation that we all found ourselves in. You have made me wonder though will some places have to close because of this, which will have a huge impact on families with children and adults with special needs!!! Hope that’s not the case.

Hi 49 Twister

I am sorry I didnt mean to worry you because the Local Authority/County Council also have some venues/facilities that they must be funding with their own staff. In our area a lot of funded services went out to tender a few years ago and buildings were sold off but private companies now provide care and day care which is funded by the county council direct or paid by the carer/parent using Direct Payments provided by county council. There are some, not many ,that pay the company direct privately because they have too much money to be funded by county council.

Yes as you say we are all struggling some are more so than us with little support which must be very tiring and not good for their mental health. All those people are true heros and should also be praised .
