Hello there

Welcome. This sounds very difficult for you both. Have the school been any help? They must have seen this before?

We have an event on this week all about challenging behaviour - healthunlocked.com/mencap/p...

I will ask Yvonne if she has any suggestions for you.

Many thanks

Sarah

Hi Laura, I'm really sorry that things have deteriorated with your son's behaviour. Somehow when a deterioration happens after a long period when things seemed so much better, it's incredibly difficult to accept and seems doubly heart-breaking and difficult. I don't really know enough about your son or his current circumstances to be able to suggest very much, but has anything changed recently at school? For such a sudden change to happen, chances are something has triggered it. Whatever it is may be really hard for you and other adults around him to detect. It could be something as seemingly trivial as a change in a teacher's perfume or aftershave that is setting off a sensory trigger for him, or it could be a change of staff in the classroom or his place being moved to somewhere where there are too many intrusive distractions. It could be anything at all, but it's not good that he's being restrained regularly, and that will almost certainly be escalating the situation rather than diffusing it. Has he got an ECHP and is he getting support in school? Is he at mainstream or in a specialist provision? What do you, as his mum, think it might be? Have you asked him what's wrong? Something is wrong, and this is his way of letting you know that things aren't good. If you'd like to write again and let me know a few more details, I'll help if I can; I'm here until Friday.

Hoping your get to the bottom of it soon.

Very best wishes,

Yvonne
