Good morning.

I thought you might be interested in this short Going Out and Nightlife survey for people with a learning disability (aged 18+).

surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Mencap...

Mencap are keen for you to tell us how often you currently go out in the evenings any barriers that stop you from doing so.

We will be asking lots of people to fill in this survey. We will write a short report about what we find out. It will help us to learn more about social activities and nightlife.

The survey is currently set to close 4th October.

Thank you

Sarah

Socializing is so important to our loved ones. If there were more organised events and access to support workers it would make such a huge difference to their well being. The clubs and groups open to them provide arts and crafts, playing board games etc, not overly stimulating or age appropriate. A pint and a game of pool, concerts, meals out with friends would be much more entertaining. I'm pleased their social activities and needs are being looked at it is so very important and long overdue.

Being sociable is very difficult if you have a speech and language disability, but don't see yourself in that situation, and then wonder why people do not respond. There.s always underlying discrimination., however well intentioned people are.

I totally agree. There's always discrimination towards any differences be it your colour, race, appearance, behaviours etc but opinions will never change and barriers never removed if we don't push for change. I will always push for my son and his peers to have social experiances and opportunities with supportive people around untill they say they no longer wish to. They all enjoy any social activities they attend, they all have differing disabilities and many have communication difficulties too. If there were more organised social events with others who also have communication difficulties would you find it such a challenge or feel as uncomfortable? Best wishes.
