It's Carers Week. So many people on here will be carers (even if you don't call yourself that). The care you give is appreciated and Government needs to recognise, and support, unpaid carers properly.
There's loads of stuff on TV but these are my favourites so far:
I completely agree with you about this. Carers Week is such a good opportunity to focus on all the time and care families and friends give, often with very little support.
I wondered if you had seen the Give it back campaign from the Disabled Children's Partnership. Vickey, mum of Ollie, is writing to the Chancellor to ask him to give back the £434 million of support owed to disabled children and families.
"Family carers are unsung heroes" - a really thoughtful and meaningful project by Oxfordshire family support network featured in the Guardian this week
I hate the term carer - but if that is what it takes to get the right support then ok. There is a parent carer forum in my area who are very good. It has been very good to meet other parents, although we do find it hard to make it to the things they put on. We feel to have so much going on already with work, day to day life, and doctor's appointments.
Make sure you are in touch with your local carers centre too. Our is great. They run events (that I don't usually go to) but you can just be on their mailing list if you prefer. they also have a good knowledge of what is going on locally.
