So today was supposed to be my last longish run before the HM next weekend. I was therefore trying to decide between a well known route that I'd done several times before, or trying a new route given this may be my last longer local run for a while. Although this was a bit more risky I decided on the new route for a bit of variety - but unfortunately that turned out to be the wrong decision.
The run started ok as was along roads I knew, and then went through a short wood which was also fine as paths were pretty good. At the end of the woods there was a slight curb where the footpath joined a pavement... however due to angle of the sun at the time and there was a shadow right across the line of the curb, so the change of path was hidden by the shdown. Unfortunately I therefore didn't see this and my toe caught the curb and sent me flying, and came down on my left side - shoulder, elbow, hand and knee. There were a couple of dog walkers passing by who came over to check I was alright, but I got up and said it was fine (despite the blood oozing down my leg from my knee!) I could walk okay, but decided best to cancel the run at that point rather than risk injury. So my planned 8 mile run turned into a 2 mile run + 2 mile walk back home.
I also had my iPhone in my hand at the time (although using Komoot I also check the map sometimes on a new route and happened to have it in my hand at the time), so I've also smashed the screen on that. At least the phone still seems to work ok - and I think it took some of the brunt of the impact so saved my hand from worse injury!
Anyway these things happen - and just have to be thankful was not anything worse! Will now rest for a few days, then maybe try a short run midweek, and hope all good for the HM next weekend.

Oh no! That's so unlucky โน Hopefully no real damage done. A rest before the HM will do no harm at all ... walking is enough to keep everything ticking over ... so see how you feel mid-week, but with no pressure to run. Speedy healing ๐ค
Oh, sorry about your fall - it can happen so easily. I went flying at the end of a run last weekend but like you, I got off quite lightly considering! ๐คGlad you are ok - although I'm sure you have a few bruises. Good luck with your upcoming HM. Is it a virtual one or a real event?!๐
Oh dear, thatโs not good but it could have been far worse. Hopefully youโll be fine in a day or two and can do some light exercise just to keep things ticking over. Best of luck with your HM!๐๐
Ahhh t-t thatโs such a shame, but youโre right, these things happen, and often at the worst possible time. ๐ Hopefully there was no spraining/twisting involved and youโll be good to go for your HM next weekend. Keep us posted as weโd like to cheer you on. ๐
Thanks for the messages everyone ๐ Yes lucky does not seem to be anything twisted / sprained so hopefully a few days rest and will then be good for next weekend (plus phone screens can always be repaired of course!)
Oh rotten โell! ๐ค. Our plans oft get thwarted donโt they. We all tumble at some point, and hopefully youโve nothing more serious than a cracked screen. Expensive though I dare say. I have a cracked iPad screen but it still works, if thatโs any consolation ๐
I hope youโll be able to re-do the run after a rest ๐ค. Good luck ๐๐ช๐๐
Hey! I hope you are ok. Don't worry. You will be ready. You will heal and be a little sore but you'll recover and this time next week I'll be congratulating you on your HM ๐ฅ
So after this, now had the email that the HM the coming weekend has been postponed again ๐ (the local council are wanting to reassess the risk based on rising cases in London, even though we are not in London...)
Though on the other hand with my sore knee + now having a slight cold (my family had it before so was inevitable I'd catch it) maybe better to leave a week or 2 anyway... but maybe will end up as a virtual HM after all!
