NEW POLL! WHY DO YOU ENTER EVENTS?
It’ll have to be a combination of everything for me but special mention for the bling!
A combination of a few of these . Also, I like something booked for a few months ahead to make sure that I keep running consistently.
That’s what I like too, I found I was disappointed with my first HM race so I booked another later in the year so I have something to work towards and won’t lose my distance I’ve been building.
Ummmm yep me too! Xxx
Ooh, definitely a combination ... but mostly the challenge I think. Who knew I would become someone who likes a challenge 😍
Generally for the location/route. Or for the challenge.
I’m not that keen on the bling 🤭 I do like a good t shirt though
You can have most of my teeshirts R4inbow. I have loads but only wear a handful. I prefer the plant a tree option if it’s an option. 🌳
I often wish I could pay to plant a tree instead of the medal and keep the t shirt!!
I said "for the challenge", but just to be clear that's not about doing well in the event itself, as I have been known to come last! It's more about keeping me motivated in my day to day running.
This is me 100%. The target of a race day or miles per month is what motivates me, without a target I tend to flounder..... But I am a bit of a sucker for a t shirt or a medal, even a virtual one!
Because I am tad loopy But a chance to meet up with VRBs cannot be missed x
I’ve never run in an event but hubby signed us up for a HM in April. I don’t know whether I will like it but I do enjoy running with people at park run. It makes me run faster so I voted for the challenge. ❤️
I've voted "for the challenge", but if there isn't a nice bit of bling, I'm out! Yes, I am that shallow 😅
It has to be a combination for me too. I need motivation to keep me going and everyone I’ve met on a run has been friendly and supportive! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
Apart from parkrun, I only do events if it's as part of a social group (eg. colleagues). I prefer to run solo for most of the time.
A combination for me too, but I’d give up the bling just for the experience of being part of a happy band of runners. Nice location is definitely in there too. New Forest, London Landmarks, Severn Bridge ……
A combination of several, but with VRB meet ups at the top, although I’m a sucker for bling 🤑😂
I went for VRB meet up. Something has to explain a 13 hour plus round trip and two nights away from home to run the GSR ! The medal came as a surprise; I had actually forgotten about the bling until I staggered into the finishing tent post run! Nice medal to have though. I think I am in a post materialistic phase.
A “post materialistic phase” I so wish I could be in that phase too…. *sigh*
Maybe it is an age thing. As a school kid I really coveted an MGB GT owned by one of my teachers, but even then I thought that by the time I could afford one I probably wouldn’t want it! Turned out to be true 🙄
voted "for the challenge" - not just the challenge on the day but also the objective of working up to it ... and whilst I like a bit of bling (cue disappointed face when found out that Temple Newsam Ten didn't have any bling this year 😞) I also like a T-shirt to wear at the next parkrun / clubrun (a frequent conversation starter at parkrun)
I'm not that keen on events - total after nearly 5 years running GSR x 2, so it had to be meeting up with VRBs. The bling's OK on the day, but after that? I've got too much clutter already!😀
I’d like to think I do it for the bling but it’s really really hard to come by in masters athletics. I’m working on it though. Hopefully a medal soon. For now it’s the challenge which is my motivation. Me vs the clock.
Your bling involves a podium too I suspect Brian. Now that would be really special. 😍
I'm not that keen on real events, I'm always way behind everyone else - I know you will all say it doesn't matter and finishing is what counts, but at my last event the finish arch had been deflated and there was no one to give me my medal let alone a cheering party as I crossed the line.
Virtual events on the other hand....I love a virtual challenge! I can still challenge myself, but do it at my own time and place, and I'll never be last!!
Ive put to challenge myself, but have to admit I love the bling!!
For me it's for the motivation and having something to aim at
It needs to be a challenge or fun. and there needs to be a medal. It’s all about the bling. The crowd support etc is not that important to me.
I enjoy running in new locations - always exciting not knowing a place. I love bling but ran a 5 mile race yesterday that didn’t have any medal or goodies just because it was my first ever race last year and I wanted to try and beat my own time (which I did by 3.5 mins) ☺️
