I like it because it's a very achievable challenge, and I enjoy the training 😊

I picked "I enjoy the training" as I often do more than HM. πŸ€”

I do get a natural tiredness or wall around 14/15 so HM is a relatively easy distance currently.

Isn't it great to be able to say that?!! xxx

It absolutely is! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

Right now my most honest answer would be 'because I can't' 🀣

But the question made me think - I do believe it might be my favourite distance - I don't have to go make-yourself-sick-flat-out to achieve a PB; there's lots of scope to improve fitness gradually over that distance. I thoroughly enjoyed the training build up as well. Yep, I do believe it's my new favourite distance :) Here's to many more 🀞

It seemed a mountain to climb but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and now would dearly like to do a full marathon but I don’t really get the time to train enough to make it a reality 😊

I want to run the distance in the next year before I’m 70, but not as a race just want to have the satisfaction that I have done it

Because I’ve signed up for a half Marathon and I’m not a quitter and I won’t do the full marathon next year if I give up now...but I’m not sure my motivation, training or energy boosts are making it any easier at all! πŸ˜•πŸ˜•

When all else fails, tell yourself that if it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing xxx

I am finding out it is the WHY to my running. I was not supposed to be doing one next year but the doldrums that have accompanied my last months training has made me more than aware I need it in my life. πŸ˜€. It just makes my exercise make sense, so even if it the slowest one ever in history I am back to training for the Hackney Half next May. πŸ˜€.

My half marathon was the next distance to try on my running journey and this time last year it felt daunting but it was acheivable. Now I'm hugely daunted by the thought of my Marathon but I'm hopeful it is as acheivable as the half was, with training and positivity! πŸ€žπŸ˜³πŸ˜‰πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€£

I've signed up for one next March. A full marathon just seems too far.... I'm determined to do it. A lot of doubters around me though. So I am even more determined!

Yes!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!!!! xxx

I always felt most comfortable when running longer. First HM was realisation that it's way easier than it seemed in my plans. Training is kind, it doesn't take long, mentally it's very rewarding. The only thing you absolutely must avoid if you struggle there and want to go to full marathon, is start thinking, oh Lord, this is only half way....lol.

I love this!!

One thing I have learned is that, when I finish a race, I always feel like I can't do any more - whether it's 5k or a marathon! Pacing is the key 😊😊😊

I’ve put because it’s doable. My friend and I have already covered the distance, first time by accidental detour, second time it was planned. So we’ve entered two because we can. But I’ve started a proper training programme now (like to do things in reverse!) to see if I can improve pace, etc, instead of plodding out the last 3 miles.

Guess I'm doing it because I figured that I can, and the Forest of Dean is a nice course and I'm in competition with my power walking self.

...and I get to fill in another circle on my 'On The Road ' running shirt (It's on the road to 100hm to become a full member of the UK 100 half marathon club - I'm a third of the way there!)

I don't really know why? Because it's there I suppose!

I never had any desire to run a long way - actually I never had any desire to run until the army said I had to! I can't ever see myself doing a road marathon (see I'm not discounting Beachy Head yet 🀣).

I did Hastings Half because it's where I live and where I run and I'll be doing it again next year and probably every year all the time I'm able to 😁

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to pianoteacher

Ha ha! I love it πŸ˜„

It's great to have a really good local event like that, I'm booked for my third Brighton Marathon next year!

I also sort of count Beachy Head as local, and go on go on go on go on 😊😊😊

R4inbow profile image

For my first, the reason was because I never thought I would be able to.

Now it seems to be because I'm too lazy to keep running if I don't have something to aim for!

I enjoy the distance and I’m close to taking an hour off my first HM time. First was 2:36 current is 1:44. So something to aim for!

Well to date I definitely haven’t enjoyed the training - long runs in the cold Jan/Feb weather were a bit of a grind, ahead of my first HM in March. Right now a 10k seems the perfect distance and time for a run, rather than anything further. Hopefully with decent weather I’ll have a different experience when I start (next week) ramping up the training runs beyond 10k ahead of my second HM - Cardiff, in October.

So I ticked do-able, and (definitely!) it keeps me running. I need regular races for motivation, and have signed up to at least one 10k every month between now and the HM. The fact that most of these races are with my (younger, fitter, better looking) sisters certainly keeps my motivation up 😁

For me - it's a doable challenge and requires a level of commitment to training - but not so life-consuming as that required for a full marathon!

I trained for my first half during the colder months, which is what I hope to do again next year, as I prefer running in the winter to the heat of the summer. Just need to decide which one to go for now..πŸ™‚
