For me it's a toss up between other runners and dog walkers - in fact oftentimes they are one and the same! I've gone for other runners though 😊

Similar here. Although it tends towards dog walkers rather than runners, so I've gone with them. Interesting fact: The vast majority of dog walkers I come across have yet to realise I'm not saying "good morning" to them, I'm talking to their dogs.

I say hello to dogs a lot - they look as though they're saying hello to me 😊

I get bitten all the time.

(By the small buzzing creatures, not other runners, dog walkers, dogs etc!)

Ouch!

Small buzzing creatures which love biting me... So far this year: horse flies, midges, spiders bite and a tic bite.

I also often see roe deer in the woods where I run :)

Oh dear, ouchy ouch! :(

Roe deer, though, how lovely! I did mean to include wild animals in the poll, but I forgot! Mind you, we only get to put 8 things :)

I purposefully run in the woods above the main track so I don't see cyclists. It's a narrow track below and being deaf, I don't hear them until they are right behind me.

It's lovely though just being lost in the woods :)

Weirdos should be on your poll. As they aren't, I've gone for extra-terrestrial!

I was accosted last night by who I presume were gypsies selling something from the back of a white transit. I don't know what as it was all very uncomfortable so I quickly shouted that I couldn't hear him (and was not about to stop and muck up my pace times to take out my earphones to deal with it).

I later saw the same van, again mounting the kerb to look for another victim.

Urgh.

Oh yes, that's a good one (or a bad one!). What a yucky experience :(

Probably all of the above but one day I AM going to meet an extra terrestrial who will supply me with super running powers so I have put that :)

Awesome.

I'm usually the dog walker other runners see, but because I usually run at too early o'clock it's mostly commuters. I then take the dog for a walk and meet runners. And finally I commute and meet runners and dog walkers, lol. No extra terrestrials yet unfortunately...

Random question: has anyone done pooch 25k with their dog? It's about time I introduce Reggie to some runs, now that he's a year old and his joints are developed!

I'm sure someone has! Make a post about it if you like - it would be interesting :)

I've gone with bats! To be honest, I am likely to meet most of the aboveβ€”probably fewer extraterrestrials, I don't see them being all that excited to hang out in Edinburghβ€”but bats are one of my favourites. I love dusk running as they swoop all around you πŸ˜€

I also enjoy bumble bees, they're really big this year and bump their faces on me quite a lot when I'm running round gorse patches. I love that. They make me squeal with delight and dance about, though I don't know what on earth people watching must think of me. I stop to scoop quite a few bumblers up out of harm's way on warm days when they're exhausted, although it turns out they don't like Tailwind to drink.

I meet other runners when I'm running round the Meadows near my house, it is basically where we all go for evening maintenance runs. Round and round. They're usually very dull and very focussed and I sometimes look the most aloof ones up on Strava flyby when I get home to see if they've earnt the right to carry such a smug look on their face. Usually it's a negative.

I love to meet friendly dogs and always say hello to them. Sometimes I also say hello to their people, but less often.

Love bats and bumble bees - and friendly dogs too!

Thoughtless sorts.Could possibly go as far to say inconsiderate to runners.Perhaps you have experienced the sort, individuals and groups that make no allowance or think of you passing.Groups of cyclists also.πŸ€”

Not sure what is going on.

Do not really care, head up, foot on the pedal, unspoken declaration of directional intent, pass lovely, success.

If someone wants to knock me down they may think again when they are contemplating their actions from the floor.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

I think you may know the types.I am very pleased if you do not.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

ARG yes, I know those types so well. The ones that think they are the main actor in the film of all our lives. 😑

It's a pity we only get to put 8 things in these polls! That's another good one, and grrrrrrr to them all!!!!

It depends what time I go. It's either dog walkers or other runners - or cyclists.

Everyone is very friendly though - until we get to school holidays. I'm generally unaware of the school holiday cycle now, as my girls are grown up, but I can tell because the Trail is busy - with ignorant people who sprawl all over the path in large groups and don't say hello, and don't respond to my greetings either. They can't control their kids or their dogs, they drop litter, and I wish they would all go home and not clutter up My Trail. Miserable beggars! :D

I know I should be more welcoming to those who want to visit this beautiful part of the country. And I am - to those who respect other people who are occupying the same space. Okay, they don't have to say hello, but I do expect them not to litter, and to get out of the way!

Most definately Annie.

I am sure I was paranoid / confused for sometime as a very new runner.

Started in Jan and until June with locals most very friendly.

Holiday time, what’s happened.

Did not take long to conclude the visitors do not seem to care for some old guy trying to do their thing.

In fact worse than that, had a few near misses, and has lead me to conclude it is not just inconsideration.

Rambling on , do not know what to conclude.

Stay safe and take care of you.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯

Mostly dogs and their walkers. There are a couple of dogs who run with me for a short way and one who always drops her ball for me to throw - can play havoc with my timing but it’s my own fault shouldn’t have started it. Have recently come across one lovely whippet who wears bootees because she gets corns and it’s painful for her without them.

Depending on time of day a few horse riders too. That can be interesting at times!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toAnnieW55

Aw poor little whippet!

Horses are awful big aren't they :D

As i’ve Just discovered War of The World’s Lane on my Italian Running route, I have to say aliens.but most ETs in Italy think I’m crazy for running anyway!

Cyclists round here but they weren't an option so I went for dog walkers. This evening I saw one cyclist. I like the dogs that look bored and wish they could run with me.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toLangley-Loper

Yep, didn't think of cyclists either :D

Other than dog walkers: cyclists commuting to work. Factory workers smoking on their break, milkmen, paperboy.

I did vote dog walkers, but thinking about it now all the others could count as commuters...

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toWhatsapp

Well these polls are a bit silly really :)

Whatsapp profile image
WhatsappHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toroseabi

What about if those walking their dogs are on their way to work; what about if they are aliens disguised as dog walkers; what about if they run in their spare time...

Am I overthinking this? LOL

Yes, and you'd better watch out or you'll become too scared ever to venture out for a run again!!
