Scar tissue: Will it help to have it removed - Macular Society
Scar tissue
Not unless stem cells replaced it to give give vision back which is still in clinical trials.
I have never heard if it happening. After 98 injections I have scar tissue in a couple of places in my eye. Whilst I am aware of it as the needle is inserted, it does not cause me any pain. The retinologist and nurses who give the injection are aware but have never suggested that there was any possibility of removing it.
I suspect that it could be risky even if it is possible.
If you do not experience pain as a result of the tissue I would suggest leaving it well alone.
Dear Jannetef,
Unfortunately at present scarring cannot be reversed.

Kind regards,
I have scarring after 5 yrs of injections ...they told me lastMarch I can't have any more injections ....
That is awful. I have had them for 10yrs. It is possible to inject through the scar tissue. Have they not tried a different quadrant of the eye? I have found that some practitioners are incapable of injecting in more than one area.
In reality the injection can be anywhere within the Pars Plana which is a 4mm band around the iris.
Yes I asked this but all they said was if they keep injecting with the scarring there's a chance of blindness.....interestingly tho ...I saw a new consultant last week, who suggested I switch from 8 weekly to 4 weekly, his explanation was not to give fluid time to increase....its first time I've seen him and he didn't have my full notes only emergency ones...which makes me wonder why the other consultant who I've seen fir I8 mths didn't suggest .......I did tell them I was concerned about the waiting times going over 8 weeks ...next thing I know I'm with another consultant 🤔
I have my injections at 4 or 6 weekly intervals for similar reasons although my condition is not wet AMD.
I have not heard that scarring could cause blindness but it is another reason to inject in different quadrants. I know at least 2 persons who have had in excess of 140 injections with no blindness issues.
I have asked 2 consultants and this is what I'm told sadly.....I spoke to a lady in macular Society, she suggested more frequent injections which I passed on but they insist ....which is why I'm wondering how new consultant has suggested more frequent injections...
There are some alternatives to the current anti-VEGF drugs under trial at present, one is being used, I understand, at Moorfields and promises a doubled interval between injections.
Every little helps.
I've also asked many times why my eyes are constantly sore and watering which they told me to increase dry eye drops ( viscotears)....I was doing them 4 times a day ....but new consultant gave me script for Hylo tears which I've used for a week 4 times daily and what a difference much better x
