Can anyone tell me what retinal cysts are
Suejoyce: Can anyone tell me what retinal... - Macular Society

I don't know. However I am being treated for Wet Macular and have been told I have a cyst. I've changed medical providers within the last six months and whilst my first consultant said there was nothing she could do about the cyst my new consultant seems to think she can. Not sure what she can do as the injections of Lucentis and eyelea don't affect it. Please keep us posted as to what, if any treatment you are offered for the cyst.
Have a lovely weekend and Easter .
Hi - have you tried searching on Google or use this link: irmedicinenet.com/script/main....
A retinal cyst can be on the macula but location is key. Not the same as macular degeneration.
You could try the Helpline of the Macular Society on Tuesday 0300 3030111.
Hope this helps. I hadn't heard of macular or retinal cysts so this has helped me extend my radar!
All the best with your sight anyway. Always ask your ophthalmologist for more information if you are not happy oe have subsequent questions.
Ty can it leak fluid
It may have something to do with macular holes but I am not any sort of medical expert. If you are thinking that treatment used for wet AMD might be used, I have not seen any connection in the quick research on line I did this morning.
My background is as a patient with wet AMD and a Volunteer Skills for Seeing Trainer with the Macular Society, both over a ten year period. We are only trained in Eccentric Viewing and Steady Eye technique. Anything else is signposting or information, not medical advice or diagnosis.
All the best.

I don't know
Hi Suejoyce
In most cases a retina or macula cyst occurs when the vitreous gel shrinks and pulls away from the retina. When the membrane does not come completely away from the retina but keeps adhered in places, which is called traction, it can cause ruffling of the retina when tiny pockets are formed. They are not cysts in the true sense, but they can trap fluid. In many cases the membrane will separate eventually without intervention, but not always. Injections do not work for this condition. If it causes a serious problem the only remedy I know of is an operation where the vitreous gel and fluid is drawn out and replaced by a saline solution.
Hope that helps.
Ty
Try researching vitrectomy which is the term for removal and replacement of the vitreous gel.
